Laura Avila is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. Born and raised in Barcelona (Spain), Laura brings warmth, authenticity, and humour into her counselling practice. Her genuine interest in the human experience and her examination of established systems of society inspired her to specialize in relationships, intimacy, and sexuality. A forever learner of social-justice and feminist oriented theories, Laura specializes in supporting non-traditional relationships.
Using Attachment Theory as her framework, Laura reframes patterns and maladaptive behaviours in terms of safety and survival, and explores them from a strengths-based perspective. In her practice, she works with thoughts, emotions, and Nervous System regulation to address all issues holistically. Her work with individuals focuses on self-esteem and the identification of needs and boundaries to ensure her clients can feel safe and comfortable making their own decisions. In her couples / relationships work, her goal is for all partners to feel heard and safe in the relationship by identifying their cycle of conflict, exploring the deeper roots of their issues, and solidifying the foundation of their relationship so they can start building a new dynamic that works for everyone.
Sessions are offered in English, Spanish, or Catalan, online or in-person.
